Welcome to “Word of the month” which is also an update on how things are progressing.
I hope by reading this you will find bits of information that are practical, useful & hopefully, sometimes fun or just interesting.
It’s all in my own musings so forgive me if I ramble or make a few spelling faux pas. If you get bored with my rambles have a look at my fabric & other partners, can’t beat pouring over gorgeous fabric can you!
This months word is MOMENT
Noun a very brief period of time “she was silent for a moment before replying’
I’m a little late in updating this part of the website but it’s been a busy few weeks.
Unlike the quote above I don’t seem to have that silent moment before replying to anyone & the thing inside you that keeps you from saying stuff you probably shouldn’t…………………..yeah, mine’s broken. I’m far too old now to change or even to care, bit of a take me as you see me. I am however a friendly & caring person so don’t read this & be terrified of joining a class, I have class inner monologue which I have control over.
It is an extremely bizarre time currently & I hope you are all taking a moment to STOP…………BREATHE & TAKE CARE OF YOU.
I have found by taking a moment to do nothing, which the Dutch call ‘Niksen’, helps me manage my stress & helps to stop burnout. By taking a moment to stare at a blank wall, into a cup of tea or a fire, letting your mind wander, at the wind blowing the trees, or listening to music without purpose & not doing anything in order to achieve something or be productive. It is helpful to zone out & recenter your self & find time just to be.
I intend to use Niksen more & feel that in the coming months we might all need bit of Niksen in our lives.
Stay well & stay safe
This months word is PURPOSE
Noun : something that one hopes or intends to accomplish
Verb : to have in mind as a purpose or goal
We’ve all been struggling for the last 6 months with not being able to connect with others in the way we did before Covid raised it’s nasty head. I have found a new purpose with my classes starting again which is giving me more hope that we can re-connect with each other. Being back in a creative environment doing what I love doing is allowing me to feel more positive too.
So far everyone has felt safe, we’ve talked about how things could improve in class & these changes have been implemented but the main thing I think everyone has noticed, is that, in one students words “It’s nice to have something in the diary for the future to look forward to every week.”
Whether you join a class with me or just decide to join another creative group, I hope you do as it will allow you to feel happier & more connected again to whatever craft you love & get us back to feeling empowered & to have purpose.
